School Sport Coaching Scheme

All four Liverpool School Sport Partnership’s, recruit, employ and deploy high quality coaching staff across all the schools within the city of Liverpool. All Primary, Infant, Junior and Special Schools are offered a minimum of 2 hours per week coaching time from our highly motivated and knowledgeable staff. All Secondary schools are offered a minimum of 2 hours per week for both the boys and girls departments in each of their schools. The coaching scheme is predominately funded through the Area Based Grants from Active City and a much smaller grant from the Youth Sport Trust.

The coaches’ remit is to enhance the physical activity and school sport opportunities for young people within individual schools. Thus helping schools achieve the 3 hour offer where by 80% of 5 to 16 year olds should be taking part in 3 hours per week of high quality physical education and sport organised by schools. Coaches deliver a wide range of activities within curriculum and out of school hours learning (OSHL) time including multi-skills, basketball, netball, hockey, tag rugby and tennis. The SSP’s also have coaches that specialise in specific areas and these include Gymnastics, Dance, SEN and Outdoor Adventure.

The existing coaches are also used by schools to cover PPA time. If any schools are looking at utilising their existing coach in this manner please contact the relevant Coach Manager or Partnership Development Manager for more details. Other coaches are utilised as mentors to help the Recruit into Coaching, Step into Sport and Leadership Academy Programmes.

All coaches are identifiable by the kit they wear, which is branded with the LSSP and Active City logo’s. The coaches are managed on a daily basis by a representative from the SSP’s and their individual SSCo.
