Success for Liverpool School Pupils During Swimming Gala Week

Liverpool Healthy Schools, working in partnership with Liverpool School Sport Partnership and Swim Liverpool hosted the 2011 annual schools swimming gala week where primary, secondary and SEN schools were involved in a week long event.

Pupils from all the four schools partnership areas competed in heats and finals at Liverpool Aquatics Centre during the week 28th March to 1st April.

27 primary schools took part with the eventual winners of the large schools being St.Paul’s and winners of the small schools being Carleton House. This year saw an increase in schools participating and a huge rise in swimming skills.

For the first time 70 swimmers competed in the disability gala. Pupils represented mainstream and SEN education from six schools in the City. Pupils with a range of physical, sensory and/or learning disabilities enjoyed racing over 10m and 25m events.

Seven secondary schools took part in the gala, including swimmers from grass roots to a swimmer who recently swam in the British Gas National Championships a few weeks ago. There were nine records broken from the 36 events, with Archbishop Blanch gaining five records. Girls school winners were Archbishop Blanch with St.Edwards winning the boys schools.

A further two school disability galas will take place in June at Springwood Heath School and Calderstones School.
